Why Go Greek

First off, before you can begin to convince someone to join your fraternity or sorority, you have to know why people go Greek in the first place.

Think about it. Ask yourself why you joined. Was it because you wanted to party, meet girls, your friends joined, an older relative encouraged you? All these along with many others are common reasons why people join Greek organizations. However, even though these are commons reasons why many people join, you will not be able to effectively rush potential new members (also known as just "potentials" or "pnm's") on these reasons. Benefits are the topics a member needs to convey to a potential in order to even have them consider rushing.

What benefits you ask? That question is easy to answer. The benefits are the pillars of most Greek organizations, Community Service, Leadership, Brotherhood or Sisterhood, Friendship, Scholarship, the Social Aspects, and more. These benefits are the reason why Greek organizations exist, discussing these topics are key to rushing a potential. Each one of these topics can be discussed in great detail and will be in further posts.

Now the most important purpose why students go Greek is the desire to belong. People always have the need to belong to a group. Joining a fraternity or sorority is the perfect answer. Greek students are always meeting new people with similar interests and goals, many of these people will become great friends not just in college but in life. Greeks bring out the best of all their members by helping each other and striving for common goals, whether the goals are winning this years Greek competitions or achieving good grades in your classes. Understanding this is key to becoming a champion of recruitment.
